On television and in print

Television, national press and broadcast appearances, and the arguments that still hold up.

What we were asked about

The recurring subject was treating a website as a member of staff rather than a brochure: something with a defined job, measurable output, and a cost you can compare against the revenue it produces.

The argument that lasted

Most organisations can say what they spent on their website and cannot say what it returns. That asymmetry is the whole problem. Fixing it is not a design exercise; it is an instrumentation and process exercise that happens to involve a website.

Radio and podcasts

See the BNR appearance for the version of this argument aimed at business audiences.

Media appearances are a poor way to learn anything technical and a good way to find out what non-specialists actually think the problem is.
